  The 1960s

December of 1960 marked the official end of aircraft production for the Martin Company. In 1961, Martin merged with American-Marietta, a paint and aggregate firm, to form Martin Marietta, with corporate offices based in Bethesda, Maryland. In addition to the product diversity of the new acquisition, the company moved even further into the design of missiles and space products. By the mid 60's, a significant priority was the Gemini Space Program.
