Launchers
are assembled on a ship by sequentially
lowering eight-cell modules into
a prepared armored space. Modules
are bolted laterally to an adjacent
module and to the ballistic coaming
at the weather deck to provide armor
protection.
Electrical
cables are required in addition
to digital data cables for the launch
control system signals.
Firemain water is required to supply
two separate safety systems, the
Canister Deluge System and the Magazine
Sprinkler System. The Canister Deluge
System cools the missile warhead
and adjacent empty canisters in
the event of accidental ignition
of the rocket motor. The Magazine
Sprinkler System provides firefighting
capability for the access spaces
within the magazine. It is activated
by either excess temperature sensed
in the magazine access spaces or
by a manual override system.
