The Launch Control Unit (LCU) simultaneously processes launch orders from the multiple Weapon Control Systems to the missiles. The LCU selects a cell, begins missile preparation, and prepares the launcher.

Each hatch is individually powered by an electrical motor and contains electric resistance heaters for anti-icing. The LCU maintains simultaneous interfaces with the various Weapon Control Systems to provide simultaneous multi-mode launch coordination, report inventory and launcher status.
