The National Security Vessel (NSV) is an innovative surface ship concept for war fighting experimentation and operations based on Lockheed Martin's patented SLICE™ and Small Waterplane Twin Hull (SWATH) advanced hullform technologies. NSV is a ship designed to operate in the littorals, but can also travel comfortably across oceans in all sea state conditions from low to extremely high marine speeds while performing multiple missions. NSV can operate and travel independently or with combined forces. The National Security Vessel addresses emerging naval requirements for an operational littoral natural security platform to perform crucial missions such as: Offshore Patrol, Littoral Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Anti-Swarm and Mine Counter Measures (MCM); Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR); Unmanned Vehicle (UAV, UUV, AUV) support: Special Operations; Search and Rescue; Environmental and Natural Resource Protection and Law Enforcement (Counter Drug Ops, Illegal Personnel Iterdiction, Anti-Incursion Operations).

The National Security Vessel, which includes a large aviation deck area, could be the key Logistics link shuttling supplies and personnel directly from the Seabase to fighting units onshore with the help of helicopters, Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) or UAV assets operating from the “Widebody” deck. The NSV system could also be used for other war fighting missions including Counter Drug operations, Expeditionary Sensor Grid distribution and management, Littoral Battlespace Awareness and Platform Protection.
