The
Total Ship Automation System (TSAS)
integrates state-of-the-art ship
automation and control products,
technology, and services from several
Lockheed Martin Systems Integration
companies to create a powerful yet
affordable system. Key commercial
products and technology have been
seamlessly integrated to complement
military capabilities.
TSAS is an elegant yet reliable
solution that combines the world’s
most advanced ship automation solutions
with world class navigation and
machinery control systems, to dramatically
decrease manning levels, operating
costs, and life cycle costs for
new or refitted naval ships. Features
of the Lockheed Martin Total Ship
Automation System include:
- LM Smartbridge® IBS with Expert
System technology and world class
electronic chart display information
system
- Client-Server processing network
architecture that is hardware
independent
- Machinery control system with
Universal Engine Controller (UEC)
- Damage control, condition-based
maintenance and security systems
with LM's Component Level Intelligent
Distributed Control System (CLIDCS)
technology
- System Engineering expertise
that incorporates pre-planned
technology refresh and technology
insertion for Life Cycle Support
from design through disposal
- Modular open-system architecture
that allows future implementation
of new monitoring and control
systems (such as chemical and
biological warfare) Our expertise
is derived from the combined efforts
of seven companies that bring
more than 140 years of cumulative
work experience on systems such
as:
- Machinery Control Systems for
18 naval warship classes, 9 different
navies and 15 shipyards all featuring
gas turbine-powered destroyers,
cruisers, frigates, auxiliary
and MCM ships
- Full scale, land-based Integrated
Power System (IPS) and electric
drive development and demonstration
work for the U.S. Navy
- Integrated bridges and propulsion
systems for innovative ships such
as DD(X), Sea Shadow, Sea SLICE
and the R/V KILO MOANA (AGOR 26)
oceanographic research vessel
- Commercial ship control and
navigation technology from leading-edge
international companies
- AN/UYK-70 advanced processing
and Display Computer System
Lockheed Martin's Total Ship Automation
System offers an innovative solution
for improving naval ship performance
while decreasing costs. Our open-system,
Client-Server approach is characterized
by a modular building block architecture
that provides the foundation for
a true Integrated Ship Control System.
The TSAS design results in the customers'
total control over the hardware
installed, while also allowing them
to direct any technology refresh
and technology insertions desired
over the life of the system.
In 2000, the U.S. Navy successfully
demonstrated the Lockheed Martin
Client-Server architecture on the
USS CORONADO using the AN/UYQ-70
Technology Insertion Mission Essential
Variant (MEV) / Mission Critical
Variant (MCV), with high-resolution
thin panel displays and thin client
workstations and servers. The TSAS
approach allows a common family
of workstations for all applications
including the machinery control,
damage control, condition assessment
& monitoring, and bridge systems.
