Local Youth Visit Lockheed Martin
During National Engineers Week
Burlington County, NJ Middle School Students
Turn Engineering Ideas into Reality
Moorestown, NJ, February 13, 2003 Lockheed Martin opens its doors next week to share the innovative world of engineering with over 80 local students. Students from Florence Memorial, Harrington, Delran and Burlington City Middle Schools will celebrate National Engineers Week 2003, themed "Turning Ideas into Reality," at the company's Moorestown, N.J. business unit.
During the visits, students will experience first-hand engineering tactics and techniques with the Lego™ Design Workshop by building an energy tower and constructing and operating a catapult. Lockheed Martin engineers will also give interactive presentations on various engineering disciplines and the roadmap to becoming an engineer.
"We want the world of engineering to come alive for young students," said Carl Bannar, Lockheed Martin's vice president of Technical Operations. "The students will conduct experiments with our engineers and scientists that help demonstrate the important role engineering plays both in everyday problem-solving and in the future of technology."
Founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, National Engineers Week is dedicated to increasing public awareness and appreciation of engineers and to encouraging pre-college interest in science, technology and engineering. National Engineers Week is celebrated annually by thousands of engineers, engineering students, teachers and leaders in government and business. National Engineers Week 2003, which runs from February 16-22, is co-chaired by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers and Lockheed Martin.
