BEACH, FL, October 30, 2003 Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) employee William H. Girodet was recognized for exceptional leadership at the Lockheed Martin 2003 NOVA Awards, the Corporation’s most prestigious award for individual and team achievements. Girodet, Advanced Development Projects manager at the Lockheed Martin Maritime Systems & Sensors (MS2) facility in Riviera Beach, FL, was acknowledged for his leadership on the Mission Reconfigurable Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (MRUUV) Program, a state-of-the-art unmanned maritime vehicle system developed for the U.S. Navy. "A NOVA award is a significant honor that recognizes the best and brightest in a business that espouses disciplined performance and a passion for invention," said John O’Neill, president of Lockheed Martin Maritime Systems & Sensors' Undersea Systems line of business. "Bill's talent and excellent leadership skills led to the success of an important business initiative that provides our customer transformational capabilities under the sea." Girodet began his Lockheed Martin career in 1977 with Perry Technologies, which was acquired by Lockheed Martin in 1990. He has received several awards during his career, including a Leadership Excellence Award from Lockheed Martin's Undersea Systems division in 2000 and the Martin Marietta Excel Award for Technical Achievement in 1992. Girodet is a life member of the American Society of Naval Engineers and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. He earned a bachelor's degree in engineering in 1967 from the Stevens Institute of Technology and has on many occasions written and lectured on Autonomous Undersea Vehicle Platforms. The Ninth Annual NOVA Awards ceremony was held on Oct. 24 at the Smithsonian Institute's National Air & Space Museum in Washington, DC. The NOVA Award program was established by Lockheed Martin in 1995 to recognize outstanding contributions to the corporation’s mission and business objectives. Awards are given annually in four categories: exceptional service, leadership, teamwork and technical excellence.
